Mornington Wilderness Park is a non-profit park run by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy in an area just south of the Gibb River Road. It’s home to a heap of wildlife, particularly birds, so it’s popular with twitchers.
The camp was real simple, but there’s a bar and restaurant in a big, open shed - so we treated ourselves to a night out - beer in glass bottles (Corona and Coopers), and parmesan encrusted barramundi on a kumera mash, with baked cheesecake for dessert.
The park has some beautiful, deep gorges - and plentiful canoeing opportunities in both Dimond Gorge and St Johns Gorge.
