Drove a much more rugged and corrogated Gibb River Road than it had been to date, turned off on Kalumburu Road (the road north off the Gibb River Road) and stopped in for fuel and lunch at Drysdale station. Heaps of signs telling you to drive slow etc cos of the dust, very strict looking place. Still, we had an awesome burger (a ‘KBB’) and chips for lunch at Annie’s Bar there, plus our first beers in glass bottles for a long time.
Today is Eva’s birthday, so I used the payphone at Drysdale and managed to leave a message at ma’s. Hope she had a great day, she’s working in Malaysia at the moment, so she’s spending it alone…
We made it to the King Edward River free camp around 4-ish; the road had gotten a lot more corrogated and rough, plus we got held up at roadworks (!!!). The drive in to the campground also entailed a pretty deep creek crossing complete with underwater boulders…
We had another fire (I broke the axe getting firewood - bummer, that’s been my favourite tool all trip), miso soup for dinner and an early night.
